The Things Need Doing

The Things Need Doing

I try so very hard to be organised, but often fail.

Currently I am using a more sophisticated version of todo lists on my computer, a thing called, well, things. It allows me every day to set a list of todos to do and check off and to get a “sense of achievement” as their video blurb tells me.

That sense of achievement only occurs when you do the things on the list. The program doesn’t help with this bit.

Instead every morning I wake up and see that a bunch of things have slipped into overdue. Things that I only put a deadline on to make it seem more imperative when often they are things without a deadline such as “feed the cat”.

That reminds me, must feed the cat.

My other problem with it is my over-eagerly checking things off. when i’m nearly finished something, but not actually finished, I often go into things and tick it off so that the list looks less daunting and I get a “sense of achievement”.

But then, when I actually finish it, I go in to things and find that some cunt (me) has already checked it off. It’s like I am two salesman in a car showroom battling each other for the custom of my own brain and sense of bloody achievement.

So, in short, I have not gotten a sense of achievement from this program, I have instead just gotten a sense of my own failings.

Thanks things. Thanks.

Ooh, must feed the cat.
