Although I hate the word geek I am, reluctantly, one. My mac (geek) has a bombardment of geeky things open at any one time from twitter (geek), spotify (geek), firefox (bit geeky) that’s a beta version (cloyingly geeky) full to the brim with addons I don’t use (ka-boom geek). I use a thing called quicksilver for all app launching (obscure geek) and have a chat window box thing hovering on the side of my screen for if I want to chat to anyone (not so geeky (but its a chat client that puts all my chat accounts in one!) geek-o-rama (even facebook chat) geek-overload!)
I also have this tiny programme called Microsoft Word. I’m not sure if any of you are aware of its work.
it’s for writing mainly, and me being a comedian and sometime writer of things means that I should use this a lot.
I don’t. I mean, it’s open a lot. Whenever I hot corner (geek) to exposé (geekgeek) to view all open applications there it is, a big blank white rectangle called, often, Document1.
Sometimes I get up in the morning, open word, then at some ungodly hour, go to bed and Word mocks me, asking if I’d like to save changes to Untitled1, those changes being when the cat sat on the keyboard.
I just get too distracted by this modern life thing. Today, whilst actually working in Word and actually doing some work I had to copy and paste something from one document to another. this took me nearly an hour… why?
Because in switching between the two documents I noticed I had a new email (I often notice before the notifier thing I have installed tells me, because I check my emails every 4 seconds, thereby eliminating the need for the notifier, but I have, as a backup, just in case) that email lead me back into the grubby internet window of Firefox, facebook was open in another tab, I read something on there and that made me do something on Twitter. Meanwhile I wanted some music, so up came spotify… hmm, what do I want to listen to? Not sure, I’ll do random radio… no, not that song… no, not that song… no, not that song… no, not that song… no, not that song… no, not that song… no, not that song… no, not that song… no, not that song… no, not that song…
Some chat here, chat there and I remember I was writing a thing. Go back to see that I hadn’t quite gotten around to pasting that thing in.
So I turn off the internet, major distraction out of the way. Whoops, Spotify needs it. Itunes opens up, what to listen to? no, not that song… no, not that song… no, not that song… no, not that song…
Finally I am back to work and I think, oo, that might make a funny blog. not only was I wrong but in finding out I’ve had to turn the internet and bloody firefox on…
Oo, twitter…
can’t wait to see u at The Big Chill..ya geek:P
