The Slide Projector

Look at me, I’m on the internet, it’s 2007. We are in the future.

I have had (slightly over-ambitious) plans for this years Edinburgh show to have some filmy stuff in the background as I tell the story. Back in February when Edinburgh was exactly one million months away my plan was to comission (yes, commission) someone to make the film. I was living in cloud cuckoo land. I have no idea how to go about commisisioning something, I wouldn’t even know where to find the right form to fill in.

The film was going to be all a-ha like, pencil drawings animated to show what was going on. It felt like it would be time consuming and complicated. I fear I was right.

Then I found the wonderful missed connections comic happening in San Francisco and was hoping to get them to do stuff for me, but they are all busy and in San Francisco going to sex clubs and listening to jazz.

But the idea of having illustrations rather than a film was taking hold. I thought it might be nice to have a series of drawings swooshing into one another with some nice music in the background.

I can’t draw, but thought I could find somoene, though my budget was stopping me from using fancy words like commission and started using words like favours and please.

I started looking in to getting a projector. But man, they are expensive and a bit scary. If a bulb goes they are a hundred squillion pounds to replace.

So now, eventually, I have gone to my lo-fi roots. Going to make all the drawings into slides and use an old-fashioned slide projector. That’ll be cool, won’t it?
