A few months ago I thought it would be good for me to watch some more films than I already do – I used to be a huge film buff, but this has faded in recent years what with both time and money becoming scarcer, not like it was in the war.
So I joined the screen select website, for about £10ish a month you get two DVD’s sent out at a time, watch them when you like, send them back and then they send you out replacements from the list of films you have selected.
The idea is great and I got to watch some good shit.
My flatmate asked me what the con was, I said there was no con, they make their money from lazy people, you see, I’d sussed it. It isn’t very good profit for them if we all get two DVD’s a week and the posting and that, technically you can watch them on same night, post them back and get two more the next day or so.
But they make their money from when the novelty has worn off, I guessed that as soon as people get bored of the “ooh, look I’m getting things in the post, you don’t get anything in the post these days” factor then a DVD will be sat on someone’s shelf not being watched for ages whilst still clocking up the £10 ish a month.
I, however, am clever and I knew this so therefore would not fall for this sneaky ruse.
Today I got my credit card bill, for the second month running the Screen Select money had put me over my limit.
I checked my screen Select account, I have two DVD’s out, one is Lost In Translation, a film I’m destined not to watch, it has been sat in my flat since April, and the other film (The Hairdressers Husband) is one I watch three weeks ago but have not yet sent back.
I fell for it
