The Reckless Moment , Leamington Spa
I went to a lovely hippy festival thing this weekend, it was certainly great and chilled and lovely.
On the way back we went via this little preview gig. The show was still giving me the fear and I really didn’t want to ruin this lovely weekend by remember exactly how much work I had to do to make this show work.
We rock up (as the kids say) to find a lovely basementy comedy room with a low ceiling. Anyone who knows anything about comedy knows that bricks, low ceiling and basement are the three things you need to have good ocmedy. Timing, material and a stage persona are bullshit. Just bricks, and preferably candles.
It was also tiny, so the however many people that came in filled the place nicely.
I was still scared.
The crowd seemed nice
I was still scared.
But up I went, a nice good healthy chunk of normal stand up to start of with, ease them in and delay the inevitable nastiness of preview.
But eventually I had to start Pulp Boy, still reading out from paper as it’s still not finished. Fairly importantly they were listening, and enjoying, since I last properly did this show the laugh count in the story has probably trebled. And they loved it (I’m fairly sure) and the stand uppy bits in between are working well now too.
So to end the lovely weekend with a lovely gig that actually leads me to think I’ve not got as much to do as I’d feared (but still more than I’d like) and that actually this might be a good show after all.
Just got to learn it now…
