The ipod Mystery

I went for a walk today to try and find the exact greasy spoon cafe that I first hasd in mind for the notblog picture, I knew it was somewhere in the Farringdon/Barbican area, that I went there abouta year ago and that it had a wobbly window and that I have no idea how to find it.

I didn’t

But I found another one, so that’s ok.

Walking past the huge sorting office thing near me a song came on my ipod, as is its wont. I wasn’t really paying attention and it hadn’t gotten to near halfway point before I realsied that it was beautfiul and that I’d never heard it before.

This often happens, I’ll spend the nights downloading bands and albums then they’ll pop up randomly. Ususally I recognise the name or something, so I fished out the pod (as us cool kids call it) and took a look at the little screen.

I was surprised to see that it held no clue… the screen just told me it was “The East River” by Jeffrey Lewis.

As it reached its end I decided that it was probably the best songthat I had ever heard.

So I played it again

And again

And again

But still none the wiser as to who hewas or how I had it.

It’s new yorky accent,a bit in the Daniel Johnston vein. Could be new, could be the sixties. no idea.

I got back home (with it still on repeat) to Google him and find his website and his myspace page, and so immediately deduced he was still around, and not dead.

Especially as his website told me that he’s playing in Britain for this week only, and only one night in London, this Thusday coming, in Kings Cross, ten mins from my flat.

So now I have got tickets and am very happy at this lucky day. Though still none the wiser as to how he’s on my ipod
