Unnecessary expense always makes me slightly rankled.
Knocking around the block of flats where I live just lately has been some painters painting the rails and fences and what not.
Our front doors (of all the flats in the entire estatey thing) are on little ledges with walls, no, that’s not a good description. Let me think…
…
Tiny verandas, encased on one side by a brick wall with metal railing. Or, if you like, a slightly posher version of the ones they use on The Bill to kick the doors down and arrest pregnant drug dealers.
Either way, the railing is easily accessible by standing outside the front door and turning around, leaning to reach the other side if necessary.
But they’ve rented some huge hydraulic arm thing on wheels, which at a guess must cost squillions a day. When all they had to do was climb stairs and lean.
What a waste.
