They have just I introduced flexitime where I’m currently working. This means that I can pretty much choose my hours. Or at least, that’s how I see it.
I have to be in the office from 10am – 4pm.And as long as my weekly total is 35 hours then I can come and go as I please.
This is ideal for the having to work in a dull day job stand up comedian. I can come in late after a gig and finish early before one.
And this week it can get me out of a hole, Monday was a bank holiday, therefore I wasn’t working, being a temp means that I won’t get paid for not working. Also meaning I’m not getting any money for last week whatsoever – bloody Christmas.
But now, with the glories of flexitime if I work from 8am – 5.30 pm every day this week I’ve made up pretty much a full time week, I don’t lose out on pay and I get to pay my rent on time.
Yesterday, on the first day back after Christmas I managed to be in for about 8.15 and stayed until about 5ish. At this rate I can do it.
But I know me very well, aftyer nearly 25 years of life one could say I know me better than anyone. I am always late. When I was 17 and working in HMV I was given a shift that strarted at noon as I was always too late for the 8am one. All this meant was that I’d turn up at half past twelve as opposed to half past eight.
Basically it doesn’t matter what time you set me, I can be late for it, it’s a skill that I’ve picked up over the years. You can try and surprise me by setting a flase time to trick me, but no, I’ll still turn up later than I possibly should. I’m not sure if I know what the start of a film in the cinema looks like, apparently there are smaller films advertising forthcoming films…
So when I found out about flexitime I knew I was in trouble.
As it goes right now, I can be in bed at half eight in a panic about having to be at work for nine. This morning I got up at seven, made a coffee in my fresh coffee machine maker thingy and went back to bed to drink it. I was still in bed at eight, at half eight and at a quarter to nine.
Normally I would have now rushed out of bed in a late fearful panic.
But waking up next to emm, and I had the back at work miseries meant that I used the flexitime getout to roll over and go back to sleep, and stayed asleep for another hour.
and now, I just scrape into work at 10am… officially not late, but it’s going to be hard work getting a full weeks pay this week.
