The Signing On

Oh how I mock the ending of a temp job, now see how I mock not being able to pay the rent, I am so funny.

So today I went to the Kilburn job centre (the closest I checked on a map) to mock benefits. I’ve been trying to prepare for this for days by ringing the job centre plus helpline. Unfortunately, it seems to be a helpline with lines, but no help. You are placed in a queue for at least a day.

So I figured best to pop up in person.

It took a lot longer than I thought to get up to the job centre, it being somewhere seemingly in Eastbourne, at least that’s how far my ankle was telling me I’d walked. Must get that x-ray soon, think I may have properly broken something in there.

The job centre plus (like a Tesco Metro or Sainsburys Local) is a smaller crapper version of a job centre. I walk in and speak to the moody receptionist. I ask where I have to go to sign on. He points me to a wall with booths and phones and a door.

“Through the door?” I enquire.

He tells me to pick up one of the phones and press button A.

“Then someone will see me?”

“Someone will speak to you”

I do ask asked and queue up at the MDF booths. When I finally get to the phone, I press button A (ooh there is a button B, how tempted was I) only to my horror to be put through to the job centre plus helpline and get put in a queue.

Aaaaaargh.
